Phishing Attacks – How to Spot and Avoid Them

CAM2

Phishing attacks remain one of the most common and dangerous threats in today’s digital landscape. Cybercriminals use phishing to trick individuals into revealing sensitive information, such as passwords, financial details, or personal data, by pretending to be a trustworthy source.

These attacks often come through email, social media, or even text messages, masquerading as legitimate communications from banks, social platforms, or other services. The deceptive nature of phishing makes it critical to understand how to recognize and avoid them.

A key indicator of phishing is an urgent or threatening message. Phishing emails often create a sense of urgency, warning that your account will be suspended or that immediate action is required to avoid a penalty. Always be cautious of unsolicited messages demanding you to click on links or download attachments. Check the email address carefully; phishing emails often use slight variations of real domains. For example, an email from "" instead of "amazon.com" is a red flag.

To protect yourself from phishing attacks, never click on links or download attachments from unsolicited or suspicious emails. Instead, go directly to the official website of the company or service in question by typing the URL in your browser. Implementing two-factor authentication (2FA) adds another layer of security, as even if your credentials are compromised, attackers won’t easily gain access to your account. Always keep your software and security solutions up to date to detect and block phishing attempts before they reach your inbox.
